The master points to the lotus as a role model for our day-to-day life. Born in the water (it's world ) & sustaining itself there, it doesn't attach any bearings (or a drop of water) that maybe thrown on it. It blossoms in the light, sways with the waves but remains anchored to it's one root.
On the other hand, we forget our true connection. Be it a trivial nick or a life's knock, the mind gets engulfed by the events even when these have no temporal relevance.
The Lord acknowledged the fickleness of the mind that Arjuna raised and directed him to practice - similar to the unrelenting effort that enables toddlers to eventually walk (apropos Maharajji)!
Regular practice requires the focus originating in a strong unwavering desire - which is probably what we lack.
